WRL Returns in 2026 With New Tri-Regional Championship Format

The Wizard Redraft League is back.

Following the rebirth of the Fantasy Sports Alliance, WRL will return in 2026 with a bold new structure designed to elevate competition, deepen rivalries, and deliver one of the most unique championship formats in fantasy football.

Thirty-six General Managers will compete in the league’s new Tri-Regional Championship format, a system built around three dragon regions—Gold, Red, and Black—each operating as its own competitive battlefield before ultimately colliding in a dramatic three-way championship for the legendary Tri-Wizard Cup.

The format represents a refined evolution of WRL competition and marks the first time the league has fully aligned its structure with the mythology surrounding its championship trophy.

“I have always wanted to have a specific item as the championship trophy for this league—the Tri-Wizard Cup,” said FSA Commissioner Brian Buschor. “After the closing of FSA and the rebirth, I felt like this was the perfect time to finally build a league that would support the theme of the trophy. This format allows three champions to emerge from three different regions before meeting for one final battle.”

A League Divided by Dragons

The 2026 WRL season will feature 36 teams, divided evenly across three regions representing the league’s dragon lineages. Each region will contain 12 teams, organized into three divisions of four teams.

While all teams are part of the larger WRL ecosystem, each region functions as its own competitive arena throughout the regular season and playoffs. Teams compete against opponents within their region, battling for divisional supremacy and postseason qualification.

The Wheel of Fate

Before the season begins, General Managers will determine their competitive path through one of WRL’s signature events: The Wheel of Fate.

During this live broadcast event, the commissioner will spin a digital wheel containing the names of all 36 General Managers. The order in which names appear determines the selection order, allowing managers to strategically choose which region and division they wish to enter.

Unlike traditional leagues where divisions are assigned randomly, WRL managers will actively choose their competitive environment, adding an extra layer of strategy and accountability before the season even begins.

Once selections are complete, the league landscape is set—and the battles begin.

The Regular Season

The WRL regular season runs across NFL Weeks 1 through 13.

Each team will play 14 games over 13 weeks, facing:

One week of the season will feature a doubleheader, meaning teams will face two opponents simultaneously using the same lineup.

This structure creates a season where divisional rivalries matter deeply while still allowing teams to test themselves against the broader strength of their region.

The Regional Playoffs

At the conclusion of the regular season, the top five teams from each region advance to their respective Regional Championship playoff bracket.

Qualification is determined by:

Each region’s playoffs unfold independently over three weeks (NFL Weeks 14–16):

Week 14 – Wild Card Round

Week 15 – Divisional Round

Week 16 – Regional Championship

By the end of Week 16, three champions will emerge:

But the season is far from over.

The Tri-Wizard Cup Championship

In NFL Week 17, the three regional champions will collide in the final showdown for the WRL crown.

Instead of a traditional bracket, the championship is decided through a three-way showdown. All three regional champions compete during the same NFL week, and the team with the highest total score claims the title of WRL Champion.

The winner will receive the Tri-Wizard Cup, a physical trophy that symbolizes the ultimate achievement in the Wizard Redraft League.

The champion will keep the trophy throughout the year, with their victory permanently engraved into WRL history.

A New Era for WRL

The 2026 season represents more than just a return—it marks the beginning of a new era for one of fantasy football’s most ambitious leagues.

With three competitive regions, strategic divisional placement, and a championship format unlike anything else in the fantasy sports world, the Wizard Redraft League is poised to deliver one of the most compelling seasons in its history.

Three dragons.

Three champions.

One Tri-Wizard Cup.

And when the dust settles in Week 17, only one General Manager will stand atop the realm.
