Week 21 tightened every screw. The Angels blasted the Reds to shove the NL race into sudden-death mode, the Braves stopped the bleeding to pull even, and the Yankees and Tigers stayed locked in step atop the AL. The Orioles kept rolling toward October, the Cubs played proud, and the Rangers survived the week’s closest call. One week left. No safety nets.
Week 21 Results & Storylines
- Angels 386, Reds 259 (+127)
L.A. landed haymakers and put Cincinnati in a corner. The loss drops the Reds into a dead heat with Atlanta heading into the final week. The margin was emphatic; the stakes, even louder. - Braves 301, Blue Jays 258 (+43)
Atlanta halts the slide and draws level with the Reds by record. It wasn’t pretty, but it was everything they needed with the head-to-head finale looming in Week 22. - Orioles 337, Red Sox 192 (+145)
Baltimore is already locked into the AL three-seed, but you wouldn’t know it from the throttle. Momentum matters, and the O’s have it. - Cubs 330, Giants 264 (+66)
Both clubs are mathematically out, yet Chicago planting a flag on last year’s champs still hits different. Pride win, statement made. - Tigers 295, Guardians 174 (+121)
Detroit keeps handling business. Another take-care-of-it week keeps them stride-for-stride with New York. - Yankees 285, White Sox 136 (+149)
First vs. last in the AL produced the week’s biggest blowout. The Yankees do their part and keep the one-seed within their control. - Rangers 239, Cardinals 217 (+22)
The smallest margin of the week, but the league’s pace-setters bank the W. Texas stays locked atop the NL bracket and steadies the vibe entering the finale.
Week 22 Preview (Final Week)
Game of the Week: Reds vs. Braves — Win and you’re in. They’re tied by record. The winner takes the NL’s three-seed, the loser goes home. Cincinnati is 3–0 lifetime against Atlanta, but if ever a team were due, it’s a Braves club that just clawed back to level.
Yankees vs. Red Sox and Tigers vs. Angels; the AL one-seed hangs on a thread.
- If both Yankees and Tigers win (or both lose): Yankees keep the #1.
- If Yankees lose and Tigers win: Tigers to #1, Yankees slide to #2.
Orioles vs. Blue Jays
Baltimore is locked to the #3 but riding momentum. Note the wrinkle: Toronto beat the O’s by 107 in Week 6. Revenge angle is live.
Guardians vs. White Sox
Bragging-rights bowl. A White Sox win lifts them out of the cellar and drops Cleveland to last—a symbolic flip after a brutal stretch for the Guardians.
Giants vs. Cardinals
Last year’s champs close with St. Louis, who hold a 2–1 lifetime edge. It’s about ending on the right note—and maybe denting someone else’s offseason mood.
Playoff Picture
- NL Side
- Rangers have locked the #1 seed.
- The #2 is effectively the Angels’ to keep—it would take a monumental Week 22 outburst from the Braves or Reds to catch their power position.
- The #3 seed comes down to Reds vs. Braves. Winner advances, loser’s season ends.
- AL Side
- Orioles are locked into the #3 seed.
- Yankees and Tigers are tied by record; the one-seed is still up for grabs.
